She has also collaborated with top brands such as CoverGirl, COverFX, Clinique, L’oreal, IT Cosmetics,, and Estee Lauder.
History of Deepica Mutyala
When she graduated from college she wanted to become a Marketer. But when she wasn’t given any jobs in the field she decided to go another way. She worked with a company making makeup and beauty videos for them, which served as a learning experience for what she was to do next.
Deepica worked up the courage to start her own YouTube channel and posted reviews, tutorials, and more that catered to the underrepresented brown girl community.
Her big moment came when she posted a video of her using red lipstick as a colour correcter for her dark circles and other dark areas of the face. This video has currently over 10 million views. Deepica exploded on the makeup scene with this one video which earned her an invitation to some of the most popular television shows such as CNN and Good Morning America.
For the Culture
Even though flaunting your culture has become a common thing now due to Tik Tok, Deepica was ahead of her times. She has always included her family in her experience and made multiple videos and vlogs where she has featured them as well. Some of her most popular videos are those of her spending time with her family and attending weddings.
Deepica’s loving nature and passion both show on the screen when she shares her mother’s recipes, family memories, and speaks in Telugu like she did in this video with Raja Kumari.
Live Tinted and Inclusivity
In January 2018, Deepica Mutyala launched ‘Live Tinted’ a digital platform designed to serve as a community that promotes inclusivity and equal representation of all skin tones and colours. Live Tinted then transformed from a community to a movement that explored diverse beauty. She wished to use this platform to enable women of “every shade in-between” and beyond to give honest reviews about beauty and makeup products.
An audience-driven platform from the start, the #TintFam went into a complete frenzy when Deepica released its first product the Huestick, which is an “eye, lip, and cheek multi stick that also balances out dark circles, dark spots, and hyperpigmentation”. The product is also vegan and cruelty-free, as well as free of sulfates, parabens and is 100% FDA approved.
“It feels like Live Tinted has been something I’ve been subconsciously working towards my whole life! As a little girl, I remember wondering why there was no one that looked like me in ad campaigns, in the media, on TV, etc. I felt disconnected and unseen. It’s made me realize that the world is craving a more inclusive, kind, and genuine space in the beauty industry. We are a clean, vegan, cruelty-free brand, but that to me is the baseline of what beauty brands should be in today’s society. I see us as much more than that”. – Deepica Mutyala in her interview with Forbes
What Sets Her Apart
Deepica has always been 100% unapologetically and authentically herself. She loves what she does and it shows.
Over time she has worked hard and released over three hundred videos on beauty, makeup, skincare, and self-care. Her Live Tinted Fam has crossed over 500,000 followers on Instagram and the community members show constant support for Deepica’s endeavours.
“I don’t see any other way than to be who I am. I’ve seen my vulnerability and authenticity inspire other people, and truly that should be the role of CEOs and influencers. I want to give people courage, and that means showing it all.” – Deepica Mutyala in her interview with Forbes
Lessons we can learn from Deepica Mutyala’s Incredible Story
1.When you lose something it doesn’t mean you are lost forever
Initially when she wanted to be a marketer and was turned down, she could have given up. Instead she chose to make her own path, better her craft, and gain experience in the field she has been dreaming about since she was a child.
2. Consistency Pays Off
Deepica started her YouTube channel in 2011 and it wasn’t until five years ago that her ‘red lipstick’ video went viral. Before and after her viral moment, she continued to put in the work and release video after video that her audiences loved to watch. And eventually she was able to create her own brand – Live Tinted.
3. You Can Do it All But Not Right Away
Even though she couldn’t become a Marketer straight after college, it was only many years later, when she started her own company that she was able to do that as well. It happened, but eventually.
