But most of the ideas are still pretty easy to try out at home!

Ever since I heard of the concept of self-dates I have been obsessed. It really shouldn’t be a taboo to do things on your own.
That’s why I have put together a list of 55, yes you read that right, 55 self-date ideas that you can try the next time you have some time off.

Self-Date Ideas to Love Yourself A little More
I personally love the experience of going to a movie theatre to watch a movie. I feel transported into a whole new wooooorrrld (sorry, I had to). You don’t need to compromise on your movie choices on your self-date. Watch the cheesiest rom-com or an overdone hardcore action film, the choice is yours.
If you are a foodie like me and have been wondering how to have fun alone, my friend, the answer is a good cheap buffet. An assortment of food and nobody who knows you or watch what you eat. Fill up your plate and ensure you go back for seconds, you may not be able to eat anything else for a while, but the memory of the delicious meal will be more than enough.
3. A Trip Down Memory Lane
An important aspect of a good self-love routine is to love all parts of yourself, especially the past you. She/he didn’t have the wisdom you have now and may have committed some mistakes but that version of you was special too. You may not have some or any of those people in your life, but those memories are still special. Watch old videos or go through physical photo albums or some of your tagged pictures on social media.
4. Hotel Room
This may not be the cheapest self-date option but if you can afford it, please go for it. Order some room source. Get a taste of the good life where someone else takes care of you and brings you food to your room, and really make a day of it.
5. Wine and Popcorn (The Olivia Pope)
Okay this may not be the healthiest of self-date ideas, but I recently binge-watched Scandal and the lead Olivia Pope played by Kerry Washington, was criticized for surviving on wine and popcorn. But in my head, this diet helped her kick ass at her job, albeit make some unhealthy personal decisions. So do this one at your own risk.
6. Wine and Dinner
Get a little dressed up and head to your favourite restaurant, it can be a little fancy-schmancy and indulge yourself. Order your usual or try something you never have tried before. The whole eating alone taboo is a scam if you enjoy your company enough, any activity and any place can be fun.
7. Wine and a Home-cooked Meal
Now I cant ask you to make your own wine, but nothing beats your favourite store-bought wine, and meal you cooked lovingly for yourself. We all have that one recipe we know how to knock out of the park. Cook your favourite meal and chill with a glass wine and really take in that moment, there aren’t many moments in life one gets to do that.
8. Wine and Your Favourite Junk Food
Oh yea! Order that 10 piece fried chicken, large pizza or mouth-watering burger at a drive-through and pick up some wine or just order in and eat your meal shamelessly. Sometimes you just need that to feel good.
9. Learn Something New
A great idea for how to have a fun night alone is to pick an activity you have been meaning to try and just go for it.
- Paper art
- Bullet Journalling
- Cooking a new dish
Take an online class on websites like Skillshare and trust me you will feel satisfied in a way that only knowledge can make happen.
There’s no perfect self-date idea, oh wait.
Netflix and chill.
I know the phrase has gotten a bad reputation but it’s the ultimate self-date idea. Pick and choose whatever you want to watch, without having to argue with anyone and pause and fast forward the parts you want to rewatch or not see. Watch those raunchy films or guilty pleasure films like American Pie in the presence of the best company possible – you.
11. Unprofessional Photoshoot
Take out your phone or camera set the self-timer or video and click away. Pro tip: taking screenshots of videos of you posing can lead to some pretty awesome pictures. Go full glam or au naturale the choice is yours.
12. Art Attack
Art is inspiring, art is beautiful, art is therapeutic. If you have the opportunity to attend an art class on your self-care day or if you’re wondering how to have fun alone, art is the answer. Be it water colouring, pastel painting or any other craft colours, give it a shot. It feels good to create something with your own hands.
13. Cloud Gazing
If you’re self-date coincides with a day that has good weather, off to the rooftop you go. Flex your imagination and create stories in the clouds and if you wish you can write them down as well.
14. Star Gazing
A great idea of how to have a fun night alone is to star gaze. Lay down a mat in your garden or rooftop and stare away. Cosmic connections and a sense of peace might just be what the doctor ordered.
15. Cafe Cafe Cafe
I love me some cute cafe times. The intoxicating smell of coffee is just one of my favourite scents in the world. Read a good book, watch a movie, watch YouTube videos, order a coffee and snack and just chill.
16. Luxurious Bath (If you have a bathtub)
Long and relaxing baths can be a transformative experience on its own. Get some bath bombs or a simple bubble bath with candles and your favourite drink (not necessarily alcoholic) and bathe the stress away.
Now you don’t have to head to Louis Vitton or Michael Kors or any of the big brand shops. Head to your nearest thrift stores, dollar stores, or local shops and really dig for the good stuff. Remember don’t just buy stuff because you are there, buy things you can imagine yourself wearing six months from now too.
18. Selfless activities – donating, helping clean up, walking dogs, read to children, spend time with old people
Give love, spread love and be love. Make the time to help someone else. Selfless activities like donation, clean-up drives, reading to children, or spending time at an old age home, fills your heart up with joy like nothing else can.
19. Drinking (responsibly of course)
Head to a local fun bar and order a simple drink, nothing that makes you sloppy too quickly. You will either get to hear a lot of fun stories or have interesting conversations with new strangers. Both sound fun if you ask me. Or have a cocktail night and learn to make your own cocktails at home!
20. Move that body
Our bodies thrive on being active. Pick an activity of your choice – pilates, yoga, dance, Zumba, etc and get shaking people.
21. Cheat day
You know that crazy recipe that comes to your mind that you have always wanted to make? The chocolate chips, with snickers, Nutella, and some chocolate syrup? Do it. Have the ultimate cheat day, where you eat your wildest food fantasies.
22. A stroll in your neighbourhood
A lot of us take the place we live in for granted. Go for a walk in your neighbourhood, a walk to relax and not to exercise. Take in everything around you and be grateful for all that you have.
23. Shut up and drive
Long drives and great music is a great combo. Just drive to a location you know or take a road trip on your own. The wind in your hair and new scenery will bring you a fresh perspective.
24. Try a new social media network
Most of us have accounts on basic social media accounts like Facebook and Instagram. Try joining a social media network and try to figure it out and get good at it.
25. Try every single filter on the social media apps you already have
Or you could go to the social media accounts you already have and try on every single new filter and feature they have. You never know when you will find your go-to filter.
26. Pet Shelter
If you love animals, spending time with animals without a home can be a heart-warming experience. Head to the nearest pup shelter or any pet shelter and rub some fluffy tummies.
27. All-nighter At Home
Stay up all night by yourself and do whatever the heck you want. There are no rules. Paint, cook, eat, watch something, make videos, anything. The night is yours.
28. Wake n Bake
No not that kind of baking. Bake an actual cake, or cupcakes or cookies, it’s all up to you. You may even create something new and unique.
29. People Watching
Not in a creepy way but in an observational yet well-wishing sort of way. Head to a mall or other places where there are people and try to figure out their stories and send love and strength their way.
30. Movie Marathon
Pick a series of your choice: Harry Potter? Avengers? X-Men? Bridget Jones’ Diary? Whatever it may be, watch the whole thing from start to finish.
Head to your favourite salon and get your hair done and your skin pampered. Or look at the millions of YouTube videos and try some easy looks at home =!

33. Profile Picture Photoshoot
How long have you been using the same profile picture? Time for some new clicks. Get your self-timer out and click a new profile picture for all of your online platforms
34. Social Media Kindness
Spend time on social media, but wait for it, actually spend time on it. Scroll through every picture, read every caption, write a kind original comment for each picture, whether they are a friend or celebrity.
If you love brunch as much as the next guy, this might be your favourite self-date idea so far. Brunches are great because you spend less as you have one meal instead of two and it happens when the sun is out.
36. Create Playlists for Everything
I love creating playlists for my every mood but I don’t always get time to do that. Take time to create a happy playlist, a playlist to cry to, a house party playlist, an exercise playlist, a cleaning playlist and a get ready playlist.
37. Karaoke Party
Head to YouTube and find karaoke videos for your favourite songs and belt your heart out.
38. Read your favourite book
Location is up to you, pick up your favourite book and re-read it to bring up great memories.
39. Visit A Book Store
An authentic book store has its own charm. So many thoughts and great minds collected in one place.
40. The Great Outdoors
Get out of your house and head to a place with a great view. It could be a hike up a mountain or a park. Feel the sun and the wind and take time to enjoy it.
Now this may not be for everybody, but if you have been meaning to get a tattoo like me, your self-date might be the perfect time to get it done. But be careful about what you choose because it’s permanent.
42. Sunset Watching
Choose a good spot and watch the sunset on your self-date.
43. Kitchen Klean Up
And I don’t mean just clean the counters and scrub the surfaces. Get rid of all the junk food in your kitchen and give yourself a fresh start.
44. Write A Love Letter to Yourself
Take a fresh piece of paper and write a love letter to yourself. Write about all the things you are grateful for, all the things you love about yourself, and all the things you wish to love about yourself. This will get emotional but its so worth it.
45. Go to the grocery store
A good grocery store trip can be a major mood booster. Make a list and get everything you want while listening to some good music or podcasts.
46. Go to a concert
Don’t make the excuse that there is no concert happening or concert tickets are too expensive. I don’t mean go watch Beyonce Live. I mean just head to your local music clubs and check out new artists who are trying to make it big and lend your support.
47. Social media detox
Take a break from social media for an entire day. No matter what you do, don’t look at your phone for 24 hours. If you want to try a social media detox or quit social media for a day, here’s an article with great tips.
48. Try to get good at a video game you have never played before
Fortnight, Need for Speed, okay I will be honest I have no clue about video games. Just download it and get playing and try to get a top score.
49. Brain Dump Session
Grab a sheet and write all your thoughts and feelings and anything you might need to get done. You will feel a sense of relief that it’s not all just jumbled up in your mind.
50. Try Origami
The ultimate paper art- or so I have been told. People say it is one of the most relaxing practices you can try. Let me know how it goes in the comments below. And I will try this on my next self-date.
51. Spa Day
Only if you can afford it, but I don’t even need to explain this one.
Learning about our past and history can be a really enlightening experience. Knowledge expansion is a great way to boost your self-esteem.
53. Solo Dance Party
Now, this is when that party playlist comes to use. Get out your phone and speakers and dance like no one is watching, because no one is. It’s truly liberating. One of the best self-date ideas in my opinion!
54. Take a Mini Vacation
Head to a nearby location and explore the town. Whatever it has to offer, engage with the people and learn about new cultures and cuisines.
55. Practice Make Up Looks
This is currently my new obsession. Find makeup looks you want to do every day or on a night out and practice them all.
